2016 Rewind 🌈✨

With everyone looking back on 2016, we thought it was the perfect time to revisit ours. It was a year that shaped us in so many ways and built the foundations of Tibbs & Bones as you know it today.

We went digging through the archives for a look back at the time when glitter was non negotiable. Our first store, early icons, and the pieces that defined the era.

2016 Tibbs & Bones was a rainbow drenched world. Festival fashion reigned supreme, with colour and sparkle at the centre of everything. Our range featured iconic graphic tees, tattoo chokers, and full OTT energy. We loved working with so many incredible Melbourne creators and independent brands including Soulan Zee, Penny Drop & Nixi Killick.

This Tumblr-famous holographic set was one of our first viral moments and quickly became one of our most iconic pieces. We loved seeing our angels wear it everywhere, from festivals to everyday.

We kicked off the year with our first pop up shop, all while juggling full time jobs. Weekends were spent at markets, from Camberwell and Southside Flea to festival markets run by Froth Lyf and plenty of random Sunday stalls. We also ran stalls at festivals. Anything to spread our name and make enough to keep the dream moving!

2016 was the year we decided to chase the dream. We quit our jobs, took a big scary leap, and crossed our fingers it would all work out. We took out a PayPal loan, signed a lease, and got to work on opening our first IRL store in Northcote. At this point, we were basically running on hopes and dreams.

In hindsight, we almost bit off more than we could chew. The space needed a full gut and renovation, and we were incredibly lucky to have talented friends who jumped in to help wherever they could. That little Northcote store came together with a lot of late nights, family support, and pure determination.

Our world was filled with magical artwork, from the Pony Land window by @exfauxbeaux to murals by graffers like Aaron Grech and Lushsux. (Who remembers the iconic Daddy mural?)

We always loved creating beautiful photoshoots. This one was shot in an ice bar that used to be on Brunswick Street, photographed by our wonderful friend Sean Paris with @femmeasfuck. The shoot featured the first release of our own fluffy festival jackets, which was a huge and very exciting moment for us.

Another shoot we loved creating, this time in the magical toy changeroom at our first store. Featuring iconic looks from Soulan Zee, with colour and playful energy at the centre of everything.

But the best part of 2016 was our wonderful friends and customers. Their support got us through those early days, and it’s still what carries us now.

Ten years on, three stores later, we’ve just celebrated one year at our dream Greville St location. Grateful for the journey and for how we continue to grow and evolve with you!!
